Community Involvement
Members of Zion serve God and our neighbors wherever they are, serving as the body of Christ.
We regularly collect food and dollars for the Rockridge Community Food Pantry in Edgington.
Our women’s Dorcas society (affiliated with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) coordinates a number of service activities, including support for Pregnancy Resources in Moline, making quilts for world relief (often through Orphan Grain Train), making blankets for patients at the Kidney Centers of the Quad Cities, and other sewing projects according to our abilities and the needs of others.
Zion members also help support the Christian Care Center in Rock Island with monetary and in-kind donations, occasionally serving dinner at the men’s shelter, and having our pastor regularly lead evening chapel services.
Our pastor also leads Wednesday afternoon Bible studies at Avonlea in Milan and Sunday afternoon services at Brookstone in Aledo.
Members are welcome to take LERT training through our District, for Lutheran Emergency Response Teams, which makes them qualified to help in the aftermath of natural disasters.
Depending on members’ availability, we invite our neighbors to receive God’s gifts at Zion, and encourage members to donate their time to helping in community activities of interest to them.
Zion’s gym and ballfield are available for supervised activities (often for younger athletes in the Rockridge area), and for family gatherings and other events, subject to approval by Zion’s elders or trustees.
