Catechism Class
Zion prepares baptized children to confess the Christian faith beginning with their parents bringing them to divine services and letting them know that the church is God’s house, and they are God’s children.
Zion offers instruction in basic Bible stories in Sunday school, beginning when a child is about 3 years old.
Beginning in 5th grade we offer two years of Bible history (Old Testament and New Testament) with the pastor outside of Sunday mornings, at a time agreeable to the parents. At that time we also introduce Luther’s Small Catechism and memorization of Bible verses, to bring out the main message of each class’ Bible stories.
Once Bible history classes are completed (usually about 7th grade), Zion offers two years of instruction in the basic teachings of the Church, using explanations of Luther’s Small Catechism. Children who begin the process in later grades are incorporated at the level of their understanding, and instruction may extend into high school.
For adults who wish to join the church and have not already finished a catechism class. Zion offers “Life with God” classes. These classes cover the teachings of Luther’s Small Catechism at times chosen by class members, usually covering 3-4 months.
